If you’re trying to find out how to reset Pokémon Sun & Moon, we’ve got you covered! There are a lot of reasons as to why someone may wish to delete their saved file and restart. Perhaps you want to keep resetting to start the game with your perfect Pokémon, or it could be as simple as wanting to change your character’s name. Whatever the reason, we’ve detailed what you need to do below.

Pokémon Sun & Moon, unfortunately, only supports one game save at a time. Therefore, you will need to delete your current progress in order to restart. If that wasn’t the answer you were looking for, then we really do apologize!

To delete your saved game, do the following:

  1. Load the game up, so that you’re on the title screen.
  2. On the d-pad, hold down X > B > Up.
  3. Select yes, when prompted, if you wish to delete your save.

And that’s all there is to it. You’ll be sent back to the main menu, where you will be allowed to create a new game save, sending you off into a brand new adventure in the Pokémon filled region of Alola. If you wish to create another new save, just repeat the same process.

Apart from the obvious, ‘I want to start again’ reasoning for restarting the game, a lot of long-time Pokémon players opt to restart the game before they even start playing. The reasoning? To hopefully obtain an elusive shiny Pokémon as their starter. Shiny Pokémon are special creatures that have a different appearance to their non-shiny counterparts but are ultimately the same Pokémon.

Other reasons include wanting a specific gender, statistic, or nature. Ultimately, grinding resets for these type of qualities are definitely reserved for the most dedicated of Pokémon addicts, but if you do manage to get your perfect creature, it can make your whole gaming experience that much more enjoyable.
