Valve still can’t count to 3, but the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx has been a well received surprise.
Alyx is set in the timeline between Half-Life and Half-Life 2, where you play as Alyx Vance, who creates a secretive resistance against the Combine, with the help of her father.
Half-Life: Alyx will be released on Steam sometime during March 2020, and will be compatible with all VR headsets.
The inital cost of Alyx will be approximately $55, however, if you don’t already own a VR headset, you can bag Alyx for free if you purchase Valve’s very own Index headset.
Valve have stated that Alyx is still a Half-Life style video game, and will focus as much on exploration, puzzles and storytelling, as it does combat.
Gabe Newell, founder of Valve, has this to say:
“Everyone at Valve is excited to be back in the Half-Life world.
RV has given us energy. We have invested a lot in technology. But we are also game makers, and dedicating ourselves to such an ambitious RV game is just as exciting.
This coming in the form of Half-Life seems to be the culmination of many things that are dear to us: truly great games, top technology, and open platforms. We look forward to seeing people play.”
