There aren’t too many cat mounts in WoW (World of Warcraft), but the ones that do exist, are often greatly sought after. Long gone are the days where only Night Elves (or any Alliance race that had reached exalted with Darnassus) have access to these graceful feline beasts.
These mounts can be categorized into a few categories:
- Cat mounts
- Lion mounts
- Tiger mounts
- Undead cat mounts
- Stone cat mounts
We have made this list to enable you to see how many cats are available, as well as explain how to obtain them.

Priestess’ Moonsaber

“Once these elegant cats were only given to high-ranking priestesses of Elune, but now they ride into battle with all manner of champion, in the service of vengeance.“
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance only
Trade 750 7th Legion Service Medals to Provisioner Stoutforge in Tiragarde Sound. This currency is obtained via various activities in Battle For Azeroth.
Ban-Lu, Grandmaster’s Companion

“The child of Xuen, Ban-Lu has served each Grandmaster faithfully for many years.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
This is a Monk-exclusive mount that is obtained by completing the Legionfall campaign, which ends in a scenario called Breaching the Tomb.
All classes are able to unlock a class-specific mount in Legion.
Arcanist’s Manasaber

“Upon her return to The Nighthold, First Arcanist Thalyssra saw to it that adventurers who helped her liberate Suramar were rewarded with prized mounts from the royal stable. Summoning this mount in Suramar City will also apply Masquerade.“
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
This mount is obtained by completing the quest “Fate of the Nightborn”, located in Suramar.
To access this quest, you must complete the following objectives:
- Fully complete the Suramar storyline, and obtain the Insurrection achievement.
- After the storyline completion, you must then pick up an additional quest from Khadgar, called “The Nighthold: Lord of the Shadow Council.”
- Defeat Gul’dan in The Nighthold for the above quest, which will then grant you access to “Fate of the Nightborne” from Khadgar, who will be located in the same location as Gul’dan.
Mystic Runesaber

“Infused with arcane power, the Mystic Runesaber has long been hidden by chaotic nether energies. Recently they have emerged from the shadows in search of ley lines to sate their thirst for magic.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
This cat mount is one of the easiest mounts to get in the game, but requires you to spend real money via the Blizzard Shop.
As of writing the cost of the mount is €/$25. Sometimes during Blizzard sales, you may be able to purchase it cheaper.
Nightborne Manasaber

“Born capable of sniffing out concentrations of arcane energy, this noble cat was presented with thanks to a proven ally of the nightborne.”
How to obtain
Faction: Horde
This cat is the racial mount for the Nightborne allied race. Nightborne are unlocked by completed the achievement “Allied Races: Nightborne”. The main time sink to getting access to the Nightborne is to be exalted with Suramar.
Once this mount has been unlocked, you will be able to summon it on any Horde character.
Vicious Kaldorei Warsaber

“The blades adorning this mount’s armor are designed to both inspire fear and pre-slice meals for the warsaber.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
Trade a Vicious Saddle to Necrolord Sipe in Stormwind City.
How Vicious Saddles are obtained has changed in Battle for Azeroth.
You must complete the following:
- Reach the Combatant PvP rank. This can be achieved by reaching 1400 rating in 2v2, 3v3 and 10v10 battlegrounds and arenas.
- Once Combatant ranking has been achieved, you must continue to win more matches within the same PvP season, which will fill your progress bat to 100% at 2400 points. This will reward you with the current seasons mount.
- Every additional time you fill up the progress bar, you will receive a Vicious Saddle, which will allow you to purchase previous season’s Vicious mounts.
- Mount earning progress is specific to the bracket in which you reached 1400 rating. Therefore, if you obtained 1400 rating in 3v3, but started playing 2v2, it would not increase your progress bar until you hit 1400 rating in 2v2.
- The amount of wins required to fill your progress bar will be dependant on the PvP bracket you’re playing. 10v10 wins grant far more points than 2v2.
Vicious White Warsaber

“If you try to give it a belly scratch, you’re asking for trouble.“
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
Trade a Vicious Saddle to Necrolord Sipe in Stormwind City.
How Vicious Saddles are obtained has changed in Battle for Azeroth.
You must complete the following:
- Reach the Combatant PvP rank. This can be achieved by reaching 1400 rating in 2v2, 3v3 and 10v10 battlegrounds and arenas.
- Once Combatant ranking has been achieved, you must continue to win more matches within the same PvP season, which will fill your progress bat to 100% at 2400 points. This will reward you with the current seasons mount.
- Every additional time you fill up the progress bar, you will receive a Vicious Saddle, which will allow you to purchase previous season’s Vicious mounts.

This mount is obtained from killing High Priestess Kilnara in Zul’Gurub.
There is approximately a 1% chance for this mount to drop. High Priestess Kilnara is trivial to kill with a maxed level character.
Striped Nightsaber

“Considered one of Azeroth’s perfect predators, these agile beasts can sprint through dense forests without making a sound.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
This mount can be purchased for 1 gold from Lelanai, who is located in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus.
To purchase, you must either be a Night Elf, or be Exalted with Darnassus.
Umber Nightsaber

“Nightsabers are an integral part of the Kaldorei’s army, serving as both mount and assault weapon in one.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
This unique looking nightsaber is obtained from killing rare vignette NPCs in the Darkshore warfront. There is one NPC for Alliance, and one for Horde.
The two NPCs that drop it are:
- Moxo the Beheader
- Athil Dewfire
Striped Dawnsaber

“Night elves once believed that seeing this light colored saber breed in the wild was an ill omen.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
This mount can be purchased for 1 gold from Lelanai, who is located in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus.
To purchase, you must either be a Night Elf, or be Exalted with Darnassus.
Kaldorei Nightsaber

“The connection between a nightsaber and its hunter or huntress is nearly inseparable.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
This unique looking nightsaber is obtained from killing rare vignette NPCs in the Darkshore warfront. There is one NPC for Alliance, and one for Horde.
The two NPCs that drop it are:
- Shadowclaw
- Croz Bloodrage
Winterspring Frostsaber

“Taming this savage breed requires patience, strength, and a large supply of fake mice and twine.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
Owning a Winterspring Frostsaber back in Vanilla WoW was considered a great achievement. The reputation grind was formidable, but the unique looking mount was well worth the effort.
Luckily for those who never obtained it back then, the rep grind has now gone. Replacing it is a daily quest chain that involves returning to Rivern Frostwind at Frostsaber Rock, Winterspring, every day for 20 days to train your cub.
Spotted Frostsaber

“This hearty mount’s ferocious appetite earned it the nickname “Dragon Belly” in the night elf language.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
This mount can be purchased for 1 gold from Lelanai, who is located in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus.
To purchase, you must either be a Night Elf, or be Exalted with Darnassus.
Striped Frostsaber

“This hearty mount’s ferocious appetite earned it the nickname “Dragon Belly” in the night elf language.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
This mount can be purchased for 1 gold from Lelanai, who is located in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus.
To purchase, you must either be a Night Elf, or be Exalted with Darnassus.
Ancient Frostsaber

“The lack of spots or stripes marks this beast as a descendant of the most ancient frostsaber line.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
The Ancient Frostsaber was one of the original mounts for level 60 players, which were available on launch. However, in patch 1.4, Blizzard released new armored versions which replaced the unarmored mounts at the vendors. Those who already purchased one of the original mounts could either keep it, or trade it in.
Black Nightsaber

“Considered one of Azeroth’s perfect predators, these agile beasts can sprint through dense forests without making a sound.”

The Ancient Frostsaber was one of the original mounts for level 60 players, which were available on launch. Black War Tiger

“Like their distant nightsaber cousins, tigers are renowned for their razor-sharp claws, incredible agility, and love of being scratched behind the ears.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
How to obtain this mount has changed a few times throughout the years, due to the many different PvP currencies that WoW has utilised.
However, as of time of writing, the Black War Tiger is very easy to buy. Simply trade 15 Marks of Honor to Lieutenant Karter, who is located in Champions’ Hall in Stormwind City.
Swift Stormsaber

“Rumor has it that this breed was named after the renowned archdruid Malfurion Stormrage.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
This mount can be purchased for 10 gold from Lelanai, who is located in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus.
To purchase, you must either be a Night Elf, or be Exalted with Darnassus.
Swift Mistsaber

“Some historians claim that this breed’s misty grey coat is the result of ancient Highborne experiments conducted on nightsabers.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
This mount can be purchased for 10 gold from Lelanai, who is located in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus.
To purchase, you must either be a Night Elf, or be Exalted with Darnassus.
Swift Moonsaber

“Many night elves revere these proud mounts because their shimmering coats symbolize the goddess of the moon, Elune.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
Obtained by trading 5 Champion’s Seals and 500 gold to Rook Hawkfist, who is located in the Silver Covenant Pavilion of the Argent Tournament.
You can find the Argent Tournament in the northeast corner of Icecrown.
Swift Frostsaber

“Night elves raise frostsaber cubs from infancy, forging lifelong bonds of trust between rider and beast.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
This mount can be purchased for 10 gold from Lelanai, who is located in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus.
To purchase, you must either be a Night Elf, or be Exalted with Darnassus.
Darnassian Nightsaber

“When a night elf’s mount perishes, it is custom for the rider to keep one of the saber’s great fangs as a token of remembrance.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance
Obtained by trading 100 Champion’s Seals to Rook Hawkfist, who is located in the Silver Covenant Pavilion of the Argent Tournament.
You can find the Argent Tournament in the northeast corner of Icecrown.
Swift Zulian Tiger

“The last known Zulian tigers were kept by High Priest Thekral, deep within Zul’Gurub. They are said to have been hunted into extinction.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
This mount was originally a 1% drop from the original Zul’Gurub raid, but during the launch of Cataclysm, the raid was changed to a newer 5-man dungeon, which subsequently removed the ability to obtain the mount from the game.
However, since Warlords of Draenor, the Swift Zulian Tiger is sometimes purchasable from the Black Market Auction House. Be expected to pay a lot of gold to win it though.
Blue Shado-Pan Riding Tiger

“When waking a tiger, use a long stick. Better yet, tell your friend to wake the tiger instead. –Pandaren Proverb”.
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
Shado-Pan Riding Tigers are gated behind Shado-Pan reputation. Once you reach Exalted with Shado-Pan you will be able to purchase this mount from Rushi the Fox, in Shado-Pan Garrison for 500 gold.
Shado-Pan Garrison is located in Townlong Steppes.
Green Shado-Pan Riding Tiger

“When waking a tiger, use a long stick. Better yet, tell your friend to wake the tiger instead. –Pandaren Proverb”.
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
Shado-Pan Riding Tigers are gated behind Shado-Pan reputation. Once you reach Exalted with Shado-Pan you will be able to purchase this mount from Rushi the Fox, in Shado-Pan Garrison for 1500 gold.
Shado-Pan Garrison is located in Townlong Steppes.
Red Shado-Pan Riding Tiger

The Golden King is purchased from the guild vendor. It costs 1350 gold and you must be Exalted with your guild before you can buy it.
Spectral Tiger

“In true goblin fashion, Landro Longshot has put a stranglehold on the distribution of these mysterious incorporeal mounts.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
This famous mount is obtained from the WoW Trading Card Game.
What’s interesting is that the mount isn’t bind on pickup, meaning you can freely sell or buy it from the Auction House.
Swift Spectral Tiger

“Historians claim that these incorporeal beasts were created when Draenor exploded, unleashing energies that warped the world’s flora and fauna.”
How to obtain
Faction: Alliance & Horde
This famous mount is obtained from the WoW Trading Card Game.
What’s interesting is that the mount isn’t bind on pickup, meaning you can freely sell or buy it from the Auction House.
This was once one of the most sought after mounts in the whole game, especially when a lot of the original mounts were fairly ‘plain’. However, these days there are so many mounts in WoW with elaborate color schemes, the Spectral Tigers have lost a lot of popularity.
They are still worth a lot of money though, often reaching thousands of dollars on sites like eBay.
