Virtual reality is a platform that I wish more people were able to experience. Perhaps it’s the monetary entry prices or specifications that keep the majority away, but I’ve yet to meet a single person who couldn’t recommend VR gaming after they have experienced it themselves. Naturally, horror games are some of the most intense and captivating experiences that this niche has to offer, therefore we decided to create a list of what we think are some of the best PSVR horror games that are currently available.

As with everything these days, this is completely our opinion. Some gamers will prefer styles and games that others may not enjoy. Our aim is to produce a well rounded list that caters for all types of people. However, as a horror fan, they are all pretty decent.

The following list is what we think are the best PSVR horror games, and are in no particular order.

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

best PSVR horror games

First on the list is Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. This game has been out a few years now, but is an absolute buy for anyone interested in horror VR games.

It’s essentially an arcade style shooter roller coaster ride where you ride through what could be considered a living nightmare of tunnels, while getting bombarded with eerie sounds, graphic visuals, and intense jump scares.

There are multiple routes on each level, so not two rides will be the same. There is also a global leaderboard which you can compete on, if you are that way inclined.

Strap yourself in for the most disturbing rollercoaster ride you’ll ever take. From the warped minds of the team behind PS4™ horror classic Until Dawn, comes Until Dawn: Rush of Blood – a virtual reality experience to strike fear into the hearts of every trigger-happy arcade shooter fan.

PSVR motion controllers are required for this game.

The Persistence

5 Of The Best PSVR Horror Games That You MUST Experience 2

The Persistence really caught us off guard. This atmospheric first-person shooter puts you aboard a space exploration ship, named ‘The Persistence’. There is a very Dead Space feel about the whole scenario, as you learn about a catastrophe that has taken the lives of the ship’s crew, as you slowly drift near a black hole.

However, don’t expect to be fighting what awaits you on the ship with all guns blazing, as the game pushes you to heavily rely on the very heart beat raising stealth mechanics.

While it can sometimes be frustrating, the overall game has a decent amount of depth to it, as well as being fairly polished.

Transference VR

5 Of The Best PSVR Horror Games That You MUST Experience 3

Transference VR has received many awards, including ‘Immersive Reality Game of the Year’ and ‘Best VR Game’ for 2018.

The game takes place in a simulation of ‘brain data’ of Raymond and his family. You enter their home and aim to learn the truth about what happened to this family by interacting with collective memories. Your aim is to solve puzzles and put together clues which will help to piece together the lives of this unfortunate family.

What makes this game so intense is the storytelling. It takes you on an immersive journey which is captivating from the get go. The crisp and high-quality visuals, as well as the incredible sound design, help to portray a very haunting home.

Even though Transference VR isn’t your typical gruesome horror game, the intense build ups from the surrounding atmosphere, aided with decent jump scares, will sate even the most hardcore of horror game enthusiasts.

Resident Evil 7 VR

5 Of The Best PSVR Horror Games That You MUST Experience 4

This game should be on every horror list, regardless of if it’s for VR or not. Resident Evil 7 is one of the best horror games ever released, in my opinion. The non-VR version is fairly terrifying and captivating, but with a virtual reality twist, it becomes a even greater behemoth of an experience.

Even if you have completed the non-VR version, you will still not be fully prepared for what awaits you. There is no way to hide behind your controller or fingers, you are fully submersed into the RE7 world, and there is nothing you can do to dampen the atmosphere, other than throw your headset off.

While the game can be physically and mentally draining with its 12+ hours of game play, it’s absolutely worth it. The story line is fantastic, and the trials and tribulations you will face will keep you wanted to find out more.

If you are serious about horror games, as well as getting value for your money, Resident Evil 7 VR is an absolute must have. There should be no suprise that this game is listed as one of the best PSVR horror games.

The Exorcist: Legion VR

5 Of The Best PSVR Horror Games That You MUST Experience 5

The Exorcist: Legion VR was originally released in multiple chapters, but as of writing, you can purchase the ‘whole’ game as one.

This game puts you in control of a detective who must explore different places to solve each case. Every chapter has a different case to solve. Every chapter is different from the others, and is fairly engaging.

The game boasts pretty realistic graphics, which is a must for any serious horror game. Realistic graphics and sound increase the atmosphere presented to the player, which in turn will increase immersion.

While the game didn’t get great reviews, due to some control issues and plot holes, if you’re looking for something that will make you jump out of your seat then The Exorcist: Legion VR will not let you down.

Closing thoughts on the best PSVR horror games

Virtual reality is definitely one of my favourite ways to game at the moment. I’ve always had a sweet spot for horror games, so it makes sense why I enjoy these so much. However, obviously people may have different opinions. If you feel like you were let down by one of these games that have been listed, or feel like there’s a game out there that absolutely must be added, please let me know in the comments below.

Happy horror-ing!
